Community

Bankers Trust has a strong legacy of making a positive difference in our communities. Each year, the bank provides more than $1 million in sponsorships and charitable contributions and our team members volunteer nearly 15,000 hours of their time. In honor of our Centennial year, Bankers Trust is introducing additional ways our company and team members will help make our communities stronger.

Team Member Giving

At our annual employee celebration, Bankers Trust gave team members the opportunity to each donate $100 to a charity of their choice. With six categories of causes – representing everything from housing to children to arts and culture – and nearly 50 organizations to choose from, we are proud to have nearly 50 percent of team members direct their gift within the first four days.

We also asked team members to share a story about why the organization they chose is meaningful to them. Read some of those stories, below:

ChildServe

“I chose to direct my Centennial gift to ChildServe. Our son was born with developmental disabilities. ChildServe helped us in many ways to improve his quality of life as much as possible.”Tim Perkins, Database Specialist – Information Technology

NewBo City Market

“NewBo has rapidly woven its way into the fiber of our community by creating a unique gathering place for our area residents to socialize, eat/drink, shop, live, or exercise (love the biking!).  It is used regularly by a highly diverse cross section of the community and is a great place to take out-of-town guests.” David Parmley, Senior Commercial Relationship Manager – Cedar Rapids

Arizona Humane Society

“I chose the Arizona Humane Society because it is a no-kill shelter. They take in, feed, provide medical assistance and most importantly place thousands of animals in their forever homes. Without the Humane Society many of these helpless, sweet animals would be euthanized. They would never know what it feels like to belong, have regular meals and be loved and cared for. In turn those who take them in would never know the pure unconditional love only a pet can provide.” – Mellissa Jardine, Mortgage Loan Processor – Phoenix

Easter Seals

“As a disabled person, I was a client of this organization. Working with the Iowa Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and Easter Seals, I found a position at Bankers Trust 10 years ago. This experience was an eye opener because I found out what I could and could not do in life. I guess I haven't changed, but because of Easter Seals, some of my perceptions of the world have. I am donating my gift to this organization so that others will not have to wait to better their lives.”Mike Cook, Trust Operations Clerk – Wealth Management

Des Moines Art Center

“My son is a wonderful artist and loves to draw as I always did growing up. He was chosen by his art teacher to participate in a free art class at his school given by the Des Moines Art Center. I want to support the arts community so they can keep providing programs that help young artists develop.” Angela Mershon, Credit Card Representative – Loan Operations

Everybody Wins! Iowa

“A solid education, in my mind, is the most valuable gift one can give themselves. Being able to help others achieve an education surmounts that tenfold. The adage, ‘the more you learn, the more you earn,’ circulates through my mind when I think of education, with the word ‘earn’ meaning much more than money. Coupling my love for reading and all the positives it brings, Everybody Wins! Iowa was the perfect choice for my Centennial gift.”Adam Leach, Government Guaranteed Lending Specialist – Business Banking

17,000 Hours

Volunteerism has long been an important part of Bankers Trust’s culture. Annually, Bankers Trust team members spend more than 15,000 hours volunteering for causes in our communities. This year, we are setting the bar higher. Our goal is to reach 17,000 hours of logged employee volunteer time in 2017. Follow along throughout the year as we move closer to reaching our goal.
