Credit Card Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions regarding your Credit Card, please contact the Bankers Trust Company (BTC) Customer Service Department at (515) 245-2863 or 1-800-362-1688, or email us here.

Q:  What should I expect after I apply online?
A:   Bankers Trust will review and decision your application. If you are approved, you will receive a mail package with your new Bankers Trust credit card and terms of the account. If you are not approved for a new account, you will receive a written explanation of why we were not able to grant you credit at this time.

Q:  Why is an e-mail address needed?
A:   Bankers Trust requires you to provide us with a valid, active e-mail address so we can communicate with you regarding your relationship with the bank. We don’t like junk mail any more than you do. We won’t share your e-mail address with another company without your explicit, specific consent. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.

Q:  Why is a Social Security number needed?
A:   To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

Q:  Employment Status and Employer Name – Why do you need this information?
A:   Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

Q:  What is a joint account?
A:   A joint account is owned by two or more persons. Each of you shares the associated rights and liabilities of the account and is regarded as co-owners by law. Any occurrences on the account, such as defaults, over the limit transactions, or fraud, affect and may create liability for each of you. Being a joint account holder is different from being an authorized user. An authorized user has permission to make charges to a card, but is not responsible for payment.

Q:  How do I transfer a balance to my Bankers Trust credit card?
A: You will be able to request a balance transfer when completing the online application. After your Bankers Trust credit card account has been opened, you can transfer balances by contacting your Bankers Trust account officer.

Q:  How do I use my Bankers Trust credit card for Overdraft Protection?
A:   You must have a Bankers Trust checking account and a Bankers Trust credit card to use this optional service. If you already have a Bankers Trust checking account, you will be able to sign up for this service on the online application. After your credit card account has been opened, you can add this service by contacting your Bankers Trust account officer.

Q:  How do I report my card lost or stolen?
A:   If your credit card is lost or stolen, report it immediately to our 24-hour Customer Service Lost Stolen number, 1-800-221-5920. The number is also printed on your monthly statements.

Please note: when you report your card as lost or stolen you will receive a new card with a new account number. Please continue to make payments as usual except any amount in dispute.

Q:  What if my information is incorrect?
