Gift Card FAQ

  • Is my Gift Card subject to fees?

There is a one-time card issuance fee of $3.50. You may be charged an inactivity fee of $5.00/month after 12 months of inactivity. If you need to replace a lost or stolen Gift Card, you may be charged a card replacement fee of $7.50/card. There are no other bank fees associated with the Gift Card.

  • How can I obtain a replacement card when my Gift Card expires?

Your Gift Card expires at the end of the month displayed on the front of your card; however, the funds do not expire. After the expiration date, you may request a new card at no charge in the amount of the remaining balance. For information about obtaining a replacement card, please call Customer Service at 1-800-362-1688 or e-mail service@bankerstrust.com.

  • Is my Gift Card like a debit card?

Like a debit card, you can spend only the amount of funds loaded on the card. However, unlike a debit card, you cannot use the Gift Card to withdraw funds at an ATM or to obtain cash or cash value products, such as money orders and cashier’s checks, and there is no bank account associated with the card.

  • How do I activate my Gift Card? Do I need to register as the owner?

You can activate the card by logging into the Gift Card access site and following the online prompts to register the card. If you do not have Internet access, you may activate the card by calling 1-866-255-9849 and following the activation instructions. For either method, you will be asked to enter information on the Gift Card. It is strongly recommended that you register as the card recipient; otherwise, you may not be able to establish that you are the owner of the card if it is lost or stolen. Additionally, registering as the card recipient will assist in determining FDIC deposit insurance coverage for the card balance.

  • Where can I use my Gift Card?

You may use your card to obtain goods or services generally wherever the card is honored. Generally, merchant terminals displaying the Visa®, Plus, or SHAZAM network logos honor the Card. You will be prompted to select a personal identification number (PIN) for the Card; however, ATM and other cash withdrawals, and preauthorized payments are not permitted. You agree not to use your card for illegal gambling or other illegal purposes. Display of a Visa® card logo by a merchant does not necessarily mean the transaction is lawful in the jurisdiction in which you may be located.

  • Can I make online purchases with my Gift Card?

Yes, you can make purchases online with your card up to the value of the card. Enter your card number, expiration date and any other information requested by the Internet site. To avoid issues when using the card online, you should register your card as the recipient before making an online purchase. Log in to the Gift Card access site and update the cardholder information with your name, address and phone number. Some merchants validate this information and mismatches may result in declined transactions.

  • Are there any transactions that are restricted on my Gift Card?

Visa® and bank rules and regulations restrict the use of your card from the following types of transactions:

    • Cash advance
    • Purchase of cash value products, such as a money order or cashier’s check
    • Exchange of foreign currency
    • Automated teller machine (ATM) withdrawal
    • Wire transfer
    • Online gambling
    • Automated fuel dispensers (pay-at-the-pump gas purchases)
    • Hotel and car rentals

Visa® may change its rules at any time. Compliance with Visa® rules is required.

  • Can I use my Gift Card to make a purchase that is larger than the balance on my card?

If you wish to use your card for a purchase which is greater than the balance of the funds available on your card, you must tell the merchant to charge only the exact amount of funds available on the card to the card, and then you must arrange to pay the difference using another payment method. The merchant may require payment of the difference in cash rather than accepting another card, such as a credit or debit card. Some merchants may not accept these “split transactions.” If you fail to inform the merchant prior to completing the transaction, your card is likely to be declined.

  • May I let someone else use my Gift Card?

If you authorize someone else to use your card, any transactions completed by the individual will be treated as authorized transactions. For your protection, it is best not to share the card with others.

  • Can my Gift Card be replaced if it is lost or stolen?

Contact us at once if you believe your card has been lost or stolen. You should call toll free 1-866-255-9849. Telephoning is the best way of keeping your possible losses down. The card may be replaced with certain restrictions: You must provide the card number and you must have registered as the recipient. A card replacement fee of $7.50 will be assessed.
